My Story
My wife Vanessa and I bought our first home in 2013. After numerous years of paying rent, we knew we had to find a place to start building equity. We had talked about it for years, but just didn’t have the money saved yet to put down on a home. Looking back, I wish we would have found a way to invest into a home sooner even if it was just a 2 bed, 1 bath home in a different part of town we desired. We would have been able to keep that home as a rental later or even use that equity to put down on the next house when we needed to upgrade later. Hindsight is always 20/20. Should have, could have, would have.
As we anxiously awaited finding a home and enjoying a piece of the American Dream, we were clueless when it came to the real estate transaction. Having never been homeowners before, we didn’t understand the terms or contracts and didn’t really have anyone to educate us on the process of owning a home. We had an agent, but I wish I would have asked more questions. I just kind of went through the motions and did what I was told. It was because of this, that I knew when I got into real estate I would focus on educating the client before, during, and after a real estate transaction.
Going through a real estate transaction doesn’t have to be frustrating, challenging, or difficult. You may just need the right agent to hold your hand through the process. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard people say that their previous experience with a realtor was a nightmare. That makes my heart cringe.
